One of the keys to helping dogs and their human counterparts is to understand what each expects of the other. What are the rules? how are those rules communicated? When can you expect “the fundamentals” to “come together”?

Where do you go to develop the mutual trust upon which such things are built and grown and flourished to — well, as far as the two of you are open to taking them?

Start with Training

Part of what I have learned to do, and help others do, is to keep dogs in their forever homes by training pet parents. (A lot of people would say “training dogs,” but that’s only half of it; maybe even less than half of it.)

Like anything else you value, there are tried-and-true approaches proven most likely to get ideal results. My approach incorporates positive reinforcement, force free training. I am (LIMA) compliant which means I use the least intrusive minimally aversive methods available.

Know that there are organized processes and sequences that can be followed. Start with the puppy that needs instructions on where and when to relieve himself. Be aware that many dogs can advance all the way to a Canine Good Citizen and therapy dog certification.
