Fifteen plus years working with both client and shelter dogs has given me a unique understanding of why dogs are given up for adoption.
According to studies 96% of dogs surrendered to shelters have never received any formal obedience training. Many dogs were simply given up for behavior problems that could easily be remedied.
I’m committed to teaching clients how to better understand and train their four legged family member’s so they will stay in their forever homes. I also encourage advanced training for those dogs and individuals that show potential for therapy dog work.
I am Force-Free certified in animal handling/shelter training through Michigan Humane, Certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, a member of the Association of Dog Trainers and hold a graduate degree in Communications from Eastern Michigan University.
I only use positive reinforcement methods based on scientific research and promote L.I.M.A. (the least intrusive method approach) to behavior modification and training. I do this by incorporating verbal commands in addition to hand signals.
I specialize in adopted dogs and training therapy dogs.
Any free time is spent with my three senior rescues, volunteering at Michigan Humane and visiting libraries and hospitals with my therapy dog “Ted”.
